Ten Things I've learned via Sitemeter

1  Every spring, students flock to my entry about Fragonard's painting, The Swing.

2  Flying Monkeys from the Netherlands think that cloaking devices actually work.

3  There's a Yahoo Group or two who like to talk shit about me and link to my entries on a regular basis...

4  A lot of people have insomnia.

5  Too many people use Google search to look up some really twisted things.

6  For better or worse, I'm forever connected to Smilin' Bob.

7  Apparently, some people don't know how to use their bookmarks, because they type my name plus the name of my blog into a search every time they come here.

8  The white tattoo entry is still going strong two and a half years later.

9  I'm big in the Middle East.

10  Sunday is the worst day to blog.

  2. Still up? I seldom get to bed before 4am!

  3. Begs the question - what's Sitemaster? All this jargon is way too much for an OAP to assimilate - does anybody give lessons? x

PS - I agree about Sundays...

  4. I had to go and see the white tattoo entry. Neat.

  5. I've got (basic) sitemeter and I really don't understand how you get all that info out of it II, perhaps I need a dose of insomnia to work it all out?! Great post!

  6. All I know how to read at Sitemeter is the number of visitors.

I made the mistake one day of looking up mine and then do the unspeakable, spy on another blog: gosh, that really was bad for my ego! Since then every now and then I contemplate writing a food blog - the numbers are so tempting! *grin*

  8. Wowsers, and did you know that the white tattoo image no longer shows up?

  9. There are some very twisted Google searches out there indeed. Some are amusingly obvious as to how the search terms landed them on my blog.. some are total head-scratchers.

  10. Jinksy: Sitemeter is a stats gathering utility that counts the number of times your site is accessed. It also gives certain information such as where the visitor is from (nothing personal though!) and where they came from on the web. If you go to the "Stats" section of my sidebar, you'll see it. Just click on it to see my stats.

A Woman: I have basic as well. I just click around in there. For this post I checked out the "Referrals".

Merisi: I use it mainly to visit the blogs of people who have visited me (I'm always on the lookout for new blogs), and to know when someone has linked to one of my entries. I can't imagine ANYone saying anything negative about your blog! By the way, congrats on making Post of the Day on David's blog!

Fyrebaugh: It shows up fine for me and, obviously, Spacedlaw (see comment #4).

    Hilary: Me too!

  11. Well shoot now I go to the white tattoo and it loads just fine, I should have tried a second time before posting huh?

And I agree that is an interesting tattoo.

I am not against tattooing, per se, but I agree that wholesale tattooing ones body with no real idea or design is a waste of a body!

I personally have no tattoos but I can see the interest when something means a lot to you and you want to keep it with you forever.

  12. I don't have any either. I have a fear of commitment... :D

  13. I love sitemeter, and yes, the analysis of it all is strangely addictive. Incredibly fascinating for anyone (such as you and me, obviously) who likes stats in the least.

    Also...oddly voyeuristic. Eek. :)

  14. I'm glad people aren't on-line on Sundays. They must be at a park throwing a ball for their dog. Or something else wholesome and fun-filled, or at least fun-filled.

  15. Sitemeter, didn't even remember that I've tried to access it. I'm tech deprived..always stop short, like what am I afraid of?
Ah, Sundays! Now I feel better...
    Fun post..thank you!

  16. Steph,
it was the high number of visitors to the food blog where I looked at the sitemeter that I found so .... crushing! *giggle*
(I am really lucky with my readers/visitors, they leave nothing but very kind comments!)

  17. Oh,
I have done that too, used Sitemeter to visit blogs, I shall try to do that more often. Thanks for reminding me!
