Peace, At Last

I never paid any attention to Etta James until one summer night in Kansas many years ago during a long trip I made in my VW van. I met a guy who collected records--LPs--vinyl, mostly the blues. I loved this song so much, I asked him to copy it onto a cassette for me. It was nearly all I listened to all the way back home to California.

Thank you, Ms. James, for all you gave us.

  1. To be fair, I have to say that on the same tape he recorded some Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, and Dr. John, as well as more off of the Etta James LP. It was a great drive back home!

  2. Transcendent and iconic and still not front and center in our culture. That's good and bad, because many people have missed her brilliance, but those of us who cherished it were like a secret conspiracy. So many people are saying "Etta who?" that I'm getting kind of miffed.

  3. I know. I'm surprised that videos I've posted in Fb have received absolutely NO comments whatsoever!

When I was forming my blues band way back when, I listened almost exclusively to three women: Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith, and Etta James.
