I can see you already at work there! :-)
What is under the carpet?
Oh, wow! I love the colors you've chosen. Yes, it does have very good bones. A little paint and tweaking will go a long way. Can't wait to see the progress pics.

Most likely wood floors. We want SO BADLY to pull up that carpet to reveal the wood floors, but we're afraid that the landlord would shit kittens.
Oriental rugs can work wonders to hide ugly carpeting. I've done a lot of that in my life as a renter.
The carpeting isn't really all that ugly, it's just really dark, and it's CARPETING. I've never understood why people would want to cover up wood floors with carpeting! Even if the floors need to be restored, I would think that in most cases it would be cheaper to do that than to lay carpeting.
When you're done with your house, can I hire you to do mine? haha You have wonderful taste! It's funny, but the other day I was at Home Depot and was looking at lamps similar to the ones you picked out. Could I ask what brand of paint? I like all the colors, but I especially LOVE that blue - it's the color I want to paint my bedroom.
And white beadboard creates such a cozy cottage-y look. I've always loved it.
The Boathouse Blue is by Martha Stewart. They have it at Lowe's.
Thanks, Steph! I've been trying to find the right color of blue for my room - not too dark and not too light. This color is perfect - just what I've been looking for. You and Nettl are inspiring me to get off my lazy butt and finally knock this house into shape! After all, I still have to live here for 5 more years, so I may as well fix it up a bit. Plus, it'll help the resale value.
You'll have to keep a watch out for the newlywed woman!
If she's there, I'll know soon enough :)
tubs by windows... I'm just sayin'...
Looks like a great place with a load of potential. I love your colour choices. Can't wait to see the After photos.
RW:
1. We're in our 50s.
2. We're going to frost & etch the windows.
3. Next door neighbors are blocked by two yards and a lot of overgrown vine and ivy hedges.
4. We're in our 50s.
You dirty old man...
Hilary: I'm taking pictures throughout the whole process. Wish I had a "Benny" to make them more interesting!
