Happy Saturday

Here’s a Saturday morning topic:
  1. Does your home have a junk drawer?
  2. What is the last thing you put in there?
  3. Does anyone ever clean or organize it?

  1. Nope, we have a “neat” drawer. The rest of the house is devoted to junk. Jim in Vegas

  2. No junk drawer yet, but the garage looks like a tornado came through. We’re cleaning that today.

  3. Yes, we have a junk drawer. I don’t remember what I last put in there, but the last thing I took out was a blue marker. I clean it out once a year or so.

  4. I am guilty of 2 junk drawers. One in the kitchen and one in the hallway to the bedrooms, and I think a third has started in my bedroom in the nightstand. Could I be a junk drawer junkie?

They do get cleaned out about once a year.

  5. Steph claims that my whole desk is a junk drawer!

A messy desk is a sign of creativity, isn’t it?

  6. Even my junk drawer is neatly arranged.

  7. We have two junk drawers in our kitchen. A top drawer holds the usual pens, scratch pads, sunglasses, rubber bands and pizza coupons, and the bottom drawer holds larger stuff like phone books, flashlights and tools that don’t get returned to the garage.

I try to keep them organized, but with 6 people in the house? Good luck! I’ve finally come to the conclusion that it just isn’t worth worrying about.

Last thing I put in the top drawer was my wallet when I came in from the store (I stow it there with my sunglasses and my keys).

  8. I last put a Sharpie in the junk drawer. It’s essential that the junk drawer remain junky, because in its messiness is the perennial hope that what you’re looking for–whatever it is–could always be in there. If you always knew what was in the junk drawer, you’d never have that hope.

  10. Bob: You’re so Zen. Do you think the Dalai Lama has a junk drawer?

  11. I have more than one junk drawer.
Because I have a lot of crap.

The last thing I put in mine was a hammer, and I laid it very carefully across the crystal relish dish with a layer of old bits of drawings, soup-can labels, and box of paneling nails betwixt the two.

  12. And Nettl, if you could see my (extremely, nastily messy) desk, you would have to think that I was the most creative person ever invented.
