Weird feeling. This Christmas, I gave a short recital on my recorder, with our church's music director on harpsichord, and I lost myself in the tone of my recorder as it soared up and out. I felt I was unconscious, though still playing. It was a very strange feeling.Kathy Handysidehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05986128688954443243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667514217502990299.post-21939575155526198602009-02-24T22:09:00.000-06:002009-02-24T22:09:00.000-06:00"If there is no soul, then what is it that singing..."If there is no soul, then what is it that singing touches in us?"--You know Steph, I know this young woman (who I adore) who doesn't believe in a soul. She was trying to convince me that I didn't have one, and I helped her discover some parts of her own. Funny thing is, I was laughing at her as she discovered that she couldn't describe everything with logic! This post was a special reminder! It's highly technical. Most people think that when they come for "singing" lessons that I'm just supposed to slap some tunes down in front of them and teach them the notes. I most generally tell them that if that's all they want they don't need to pay me to teach them to do that. All they have to do is go out and purchase a CD or listen to it on YouTube or the radio and sing it by rote.

But that's all beside the point. YES, YES, YES!! I believe that singing is most certainly connected to the soul. Look at the Psalms if you don't think so. So many of them begin with "sing to the Lord" or "shout unto God" or some such line as that. From time's beginning it has been the human voice that has led the way in our musical expressions. All instruments were developed to mimic the human voice in some fashion. The instrument that we know as the clarinet was developed in Europe in the mid 18th century and was one of Mozart's favorite instruments. Why? Because it was the instrument that, to him, most closely resembled the human voice.

Great post, babe!Lynettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11179278237988549530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667514217502990299.post-73968284562276215832009-02-24T16:17:00.000-06:002009-02-24T16:17:00.000-06:00I agree completely about musical vibrations. I need to learn more about Sacred Geometry though.Kaye Wallerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06491607694389685973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667514217502990299.post-36127536641717274142009-02-24T16:13:00.000-06:002009-02-24T16:13:00.000-06:00I go one further than this - the musical vibration...I go one further than this - the musical vibrations are so linked in to the chakras, they affect the 'wellness' of the whole body. And I'm also intrigued by the Sacred Geometry that ties in with ratio of note intervals. An absorbing subject. I've always loved singing harmonies to almost anything as well!Jinksyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01686101468214361004noreply@blogger.com
