I put one of those amber 'flame' bulbs in the
porch light, and we cut the pumpkin from the
bottom so that it could sit in this prominent place.
A little closer in. The porch looks so bare
without all of the green plants!
Jack's close-up! We wanted a traditional, happy
Jack-O-Lantern this year. Pay no attention to the
peeling paint; that's a job for next spring.

A basket of acorns from our oak tree
sits by the front door.
Winter is on its way!

Looks great! We don't do anything at all for Halloween any more. The last time we got candy (2006), there were exactly five kids that came by. Last year we didn't get any candy and there were only two knocks at the door. They just don't go out around here any more. The fact that it always rains on Halloween could be one reason, I guess.
The jack-o-lantern looks PERFECT--just how we thought it would look! :)
We just got two kids. I'm wondering though, with the light covered by the pumpkin, there's not going to be much light on the porch. Wonder if I should out our oil lamp out there...
Your Jack's a beauty! I know what you mean about after raising the kids. We didn't even get a pumpkin this year.
Hey, you must tell us about your delightful cottage spirit!
I like it just the way you decorated,
the picture of homeyness.
Problem is, I get all greedy for all that fun sized Halloween candy! I used to steal Reese's peanut butter cups and Bounty bars from my wee ones (I know, bad mother!). Those were the times, my friend. *wistful sigh*
P.S.: I have something like 5 or 6 (or 7?) large pumpkins on our balcony, our son's own harvest. Wonder what people think, looking up. They surely don't think about
Five little pumpkins
Sitting on a gate
The first one said,
"Oh, my, it's getting late!"
The second one said,
"There are witches in the air!"
The third one said,
"But we don't care!"
The fourth one said,
"Let's run and run and run!"
The fifth one said,
"I'm ready for some fun!"
OOOOOOOH, went the wind
And OUT went the light
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight.
Love the jack-o-lantern! Looks great. Your new house looks so cozy, so...cottage-y!
Deni - that's pretty much the situation in my neighborhood now. Last year, I'd sit for a half hour and a couple of kids would come by; then sit another half hour to 45 minutes and a few more kids would come by. I gave up this year. Most of the trick-or-treaters came from the sub across the street from me and now they're all teens with cars.
If that basket of acorns was on my porch, my squirrels would have emptied it within the firt minute of setting it out! LOL
That basket is only about 1/1000th of what is lying in the grass! Our squirrels are fat and happy.
Sweet Autumnal scene...love the coziness of it
"Great oaks from little acorns grow".
Saturday will probably be busier. There were a lot of people that:
A) Protested the whole idea of moving Trick or Treat night (I refused to turn on my porch light)
B) Didn't know it had been moved.
C) Will go out both nights.
We only got about a dozen kids, and they were the little, little ones that parents had to take out. I predict we'll get the older kids on Saturday.
I think that the young couple with the toddler who live across the street from us didn't know that it had been moved to Thursday. They didn't have their porch light on until late and then they turned it off early. Neither did they take their little girl out trick-or-treating. We might get them on Saturday.
Your place looks quite lovely.. warm and cozy.
