I just remembered that there was a bar attached to the motel called, appropriately, "The Launch Pad".
If any of my readers live in the Ventura area, do you know if it's still there? The last time I drove by (1985, I think) it looked like low-income housing.
In Oxnard, California, across the highway from Pt. Mugu Air Force Base, there used to be a seedy little place called, The Missile Launch Motel.
